Devastating News on UPS Accident: Death Toll Rises to 13

The number of lives lost due to the UPS cargo plane that caught fire and crashed has now reached 13, per recent statements.

City Leader's Statement

Traveling to the Teamsters’ vigil, I learned of a thirteenth victim that lost their life as a result of the aircraft incident,” expressed the municipal leader in a public communication. “My heart is with the relatives, friends and colleagues of all who were lost in this recently occurred tragedy. We will get through this collectively.”

Casualties Named

A statement from UPS listed the pilots aboard the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies reach out to all staff member who has been impacted and all in our local area – helping you and ensuring you obtain the attention and aid you need is our focus,” the firm’s statement expressed.

Probe Updates

Federal officials disclosed that the jet’s port side wing caught fire and an engine separated shortly after takeoff from the Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport, resulting in the jet to crash and burst into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board has said it is investigating the aircraft’s maintenance history, which was in the state for fixes weeks ahead of the incident.

Aviation information revealed the jet was on the runway in that location from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this plane was there in the facility,” said an NTSB member on later, not giving a specific time frame. “We will look at every piece of maintenance that was performed, even the San Antonio period, right up to the date of the journey.”

Retrieval of Key Evidence

The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were found, and the motor was located on the runway.

The recorders – referred to as data containers – were built to withstand crash impacts and intense temperatures from infernos, and they seemed to be intact when found amid the wreckage. Authorities plan on reviewing data from the devices.

Jet’s final data recordings indicated an altitude of 475 feet and a speed of 210 miles per hour ahead of the accident.

Maintenance History

Per FAA records from last month, a crack on a component inside the tank area required fixes.

The company ST Engineering, which stated it provides airframe maintenance for UPS’s aircraft and operates a repair facility in San Antonio, chose not to provide remarks, but stated it would work closely when officials contacted it.

Operations Continue

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport activities continued Wednesday night with its express or evening operation, spokesperson Jim Mayer stated. Each of the three runways at the aviation hub were also open again.

The sorting center in the city is the firm’s biggest. The facility employs over twenty thousand workers in the locality, handles numerous trips each day and organizes more than a huge volume of items an hour.

Public Response

A memorial was organized on the evening of that date by the local worker’s group, which represents employees at the aviation hub, the organization’s primary air cargo hub.

Teamsters Local 89, which represents UPS workers, started the memorial with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the rough moment of the crash previously.

“This incident was so unexpected, so unforeseen,” the leader told the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a moment to part to any of those who we have lost.”
