An individual who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to youngsters at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys aged between nine and ten.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was held in detention prior to a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The man played a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated items including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She said the defendant went on to play the "treat game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.
She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a area of five children.
