PSG Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
